Let's stop pretending that journalists don't care about money. It has led to reporters and editors, particularly for print, being criminally underpaid for an entire lifetime. Only broadcast journalists are likely to earn adequate compensation, and then, most likely, when they are stars. Professions that are underpaid are undervalued. Sure, recognition and positive feedback and a good work environment are important, too, but let's start paying journaliists like the professionals they truly are — or should be.
